Summer Fencing

Dad has almost completed the white fence. He did a nice, sturdy cement base for the fence so it should last through the millenium.

Father's Day Activities at the Spokane House

I took Dad to see the Spokane House Re encampment Saturday.  200 years ago white people first settled in Spokane.  Things haven't been the same since.  David Thompson from the Northwest Company came and settled this area just up from Nine Mile and built a trading post called The  Spokane House.  Each summer a group puts on a re enactment to show how the trappers lived and the lives they lived.  Fishing was heavenly for the indians here, catching salmon from the Spokane River.  This group of men and women set up camp and live there
for 2 days doing the thing that were done in the 1800's.  It attracts a large group of people that have interest in history every summer.  It smells of camp smoke and pines.  The river is high and it's a beautiful place to imagine how it was - - they called it Nin Chin Tseen -
The Gathering Place.

Frontier camps for trappers

Hard work on the frontier

This man was taking the bark off this stick.  It's a wooden vice and he was using a spoke shave to scrape the stick with.

A tee pee

Teepee set-up for one of the men and wife to stay in. It actually had fur hides as blankets.  Looked very authentic - and very warm.
Frontier or trappers cooking set up.  Quite the handy little stand.  The re-enactment people cooked their own meals at this site and stayed in their lean-to's for the two-day event.   Living as they did in the 1800's.

Frontier Sewing kit

Homemade frontier sewing kit wrapped in wool cloth.  The knife was the woman's best friend. She made her needles from porcupine quills. The curvey tool is what she used to scrape the quills with to make them thin and sharp

Frontier Lady

Lady from Montreal telling how the frontier women would sew their clothes and how they made their own needles and thread

The Beaver hat

He's an Englishman who was telling how they made the beaver hats from beaver pelts.  He was wearing one of those hats.

Personal Washing post

This fellow had a washing post set up in very primitive style.

CJ Ordination Day

Dad and I went to Cory's ward for CJ's Melchizedak PH. ordination.  Cory ordained him
today to the office of Elder and gave him a blessing.  Dad and Jeremy assisted.
It was a GREAT day for him and I was so proud of CJ.   After he gave his hugs he came
and sat down by me and gave me a hug as well.   What a great kid he is.
I got those three men outside and took their picture and then CJ called a fellow over to
take some more pictures because he wanted his Grandma in one too.  I was proud of
him today.

Ordination Day

Love that CJ

It's graduation time for the boys.  Yesterday, after the funeral, we went up to Cory's and
visited and gave graduation gifts.  We were going to go to the bbq down at the lake but
Dad wasn't feeling the greatest so we just came home.  It was fun to see CJ again and
just sit and visit.   Graduation is tomorrow (Monday evening at the Fox).
